Welcome to my PostgreSQL tuning blog. I would like to use this blog to collect my thoughts on different aspects of database and system tuning in general and PostgreSQL tuning specifically.
Tuning is neither magic nor very hard when you understand why the database or system behaves the way it does. I have spent the best part of the last 10 years working as a database architect and tuning specialist for Oracle databases. Currently PostgreSQL is the database management system of choice for my personal projects including this blog and I would like to share some of my insights on the topic.
I like to start the blog with a quote of a real SQL joke published on Tom Kyte’s blog:
A SQL query walks into a bar and sees two tables. He walks up to them and says ‘Can I join you?’
I liked it … 😃
